Bird Song
‘Bird Song’ is a track about letting your mind take flight and drifting with the summer breeze. It blends playful rhythms and soft guitar melodies with bird recordings captured outside my window. To me, it reflects a curious and optimistic perspective – open, warm, and gently uplifting.
Liner Notes to Bird Song

While I was working on the track, the uplifting and energetic drums and guitar parts reminded me of the sound of bird song and its soothing and optimistic perspective. I always liked just listening to these sounds in front of my window and thought it would be a fitting theme for the track.

I also feel like the track has a very summery atmosphere to it. During writing of the song, I tried to emphasize this by including some brief and optimistic vocal samples from time to time as well as some washed out synth layers in the background, like taking flight in a summer breeze.

Based on the summery overall theme, I wanted to also capture this in the visuals for the track. So I searched my photo library for images that have a light and warm scenery such as this one. This image was captured in June last year during late sunset near a field just outside Erfurt.

For the cover art of the track, the idea was to combine the track's title with the summery theme of the track. My wife and I brainstormed a lot and we looked through many images that could have worked. But then we found this close-up monochrome image of two birds that I captured in the small garden in front of our appartement a couple of years ago. She combined it with an abstract summer image to fit the warm atmosphere of the track.

I captured these drone shots on a very foggy morning that somehow had the fog hanging so low that I was able to fly my drone above the "clouds". This way, I could see the warm light of sunrise illuminating the foggy landscape and the city. I felt like this was a fitting scenery for the track as well – lifting over the clouds and feeling the warm sunlight from above.

I recorded the first version of the track more than two years ago already (actually during winter), but did not get around to finalize and release it during this time. I'm super happy to now be able to share it with you, and I felt like late summer was the perfect time for it this year!
