Bloom

‘Bloom’ is a mellow, atmospheric track inspired by the feeling of early spring. I used warm textures, soft electric piano and guitar, and subtle field recordings to create a sense of renewal and calm. It’s part of a seasonal concept of future releases. This track represents the quiet joy of noticing small changes in nature and our surroundings and taking the time to appreciate them.

Liner Notes to Bloom

Since the track is inspired by spring, I wanted to capture this in the track's visuals as well. I have collected quite a few short clips of wildflowers and blossoms in my area over the last couple of years, and now just felt like the perfect time to use them in the context of Bloom.

The track makes use of soft electric piano and guitar instrumentation which are combined with nature recordings I made some time ago. I wanted these nature sounds to work as a foundational element in the background of the track without them distracting from the main melodies.

Bloom is my first release since about two years. During this time, I felt like overthinking my creative process was holding me back a little from sharing more of my music and photography. So I decided to start sharing more images straight out of camera without further editing to make them feel more in the moment and less planned out.

For the cover art of the track, I also wanted to take some new direction by using some of my images in the art work. My wife then came up with the cover art for Bloom and it immediately felt like it fits the track perfectly. The background is slightly washed out, while the flower in the front remains clear and in focus.

While I was working on Bloom, the initial idea for the track developed quite quickly, but it took me some time to finish und polish the track further. A part of the track that I only added a couple of weeks later is the outro starting around the two minute mark. I recorded some additional guitar parts and also added a cello line while removing the percussion to make it sound soft and relaxing.

Bloom represents the quiet joy of noticing small changes in nature. Spring as a season captures this very well for me because everything changes quite quickly and some things only last for a short period of time. But this also makes this part of the year so interesting to me since you can always find something new and exiting around you.
